Have you noticed the new fun section of single track down at Sycamore Island (Van Buren)? While we weren’t able to gather for the past year for trail work, a few members of your CCORC board were working with the San Joaquin River Conservancy to develop this fun new trail for us all to use! Here is some of the back story…

Back in 2019, John Shelton from the San Joaquin River Conservancy had met with a few members of the CCORC board. Justin Morgan, who is the champion of our trail development team on the board, worked closely with John to come up with some ideas of how we could add more recreation opportunities to the SJRC properties. It was agreed upon that CCORC would help to re-develop some old single track that has since fallen into disrepair out at the Van Buren property (what we usually call Sycamore Island, Madera side).

Unfortunately, right after that, Covid hit and we were unable to have group gatherings to take advantage of this opportunity.

That did not stop your Board Build team!

Justin Morgan and Mike Bloom took it upon themselves and put in dozens of hours personally over 2020 to develop these trails with the permission and oversight of the San Joaquin River Conservancy. Over the course of the year, Justin and Mike re-cut and cleared 4 miles of single track, that can be used by all level of rider down at Sycamore Island.

The success and cleanness of the project has since led to other discussions about future projects on the various SJRC properties further up river. Stay tuned for work day announcements as these get approved!

We would like to remind everyone that CCORC prides itself on having a positive and proactive working relationship with land managers. Please DO NOT take it upon yourself to cut or modify trails with out land manager approval. If you have an idea for a new trail, feel free to let us know! We are happy to help facilitate these conversations and improve trails for all to use.
